In an attempt to re-discover my city, I spent the past two weeks photographing and capturing soundscapes at the 31 train stations on the T9 Northern Line. In addition to the photographs, a video installation was created utilising the waveform videos of the field recording.
Inspired by artists such as Stephen Shore, Edward Ruscha and Edward Hopper, I tried to capture my immediate reactions to each station as I encountered them. Thus, this exhibition becomes a synthesis of my inner experience. I see beauty in these mundane scenes: long-lived and ephemeral, bustling and tranquil. In our shared urban commute experience, I feel a unique flavour of loneliness as well as a sense of togetherness.
